Independence Day for Ghana

(Sun., July 1st)

What a privilege to watch the Euro Cup on a big screen TV with a room full of rowdy soccer fanatics. 35 of us to be exact. In a space half the size my bedroom. I had one boy leaning on my legs, one sitting on my feet, and a little one in my lap (for part of the game). No girls allowed except the “yeevoo” in the villiage. Half of us were rooting for Italy (one of their players is from Ghana), but of course the half who were rooting for Spain went wild over every single point! 4-0 was a disappointing ending for Italy and for those of us who left wondering if we shouldn’t have rooted for Spain after all…
